If the Big Pharma was not in cahoots with the insurance companies, these expensive drugs would fail to be sold. There are actually drugs in that category now. Ancient generic drugs, having done some selective money spreading , have kept 14 year patents going for30 years. But they couldn't keep all competition down, and for far less money people could get the same ancient generic drugs much cheaper. Drugs that used to see billions of dollars in sales each year are now lucky to see 1 billion dollars in a year. But the combo of big Pharma and the insurance companies is a funnel for enormous amounts of money to be wasted on useless insanely overpriced drugs. .
