Since the rich and big business own the government, and since every bill has a section for stuff that hasn't anything connected to the bill, raising taxes is just an opportunity for theft. And yes the tax system is progressive, but the common people have no loopholes, secret programs only big corporations could use, etc. such that you can say they pay a cetain percentage, but they don't the middle class pays it all. Try to remember the important stuff, like Warren Buffett after the trump tax cut for the rich holding up his quarterly tax filing showing he really pays 7%. Or the Disney heiress appearing repeatedly to say the rich simply didn't need this tax cut. People who already have more money than they could ever spend don't need the tax cut for the rich. But there is more to this than meets the eye..
