  2. It took serious balls for Admiral Sir Sandy Woodward to deliberately put his warships into harms way to protect the troops landing at San Carlos. By drawing Argentinian fire away from the ground forces, he knew that every sailor in the fleet would have to fight for their lives for days on end; he also knew that not every sailor would make it home. I would expect nothing less from an ex submarine commander.

  9. ⁠ @EdMcF1  Royal Navy doctrine before the Falklands War was to monitor the GIUK gap and hunt Soviet submarines not to fight a expeditionary war thousands of miles away. Royal Navy AA missiles were designed to shoot down high altitude Soviet bombers not low flying attack aircraft. The fleet had lots of anti submarine warfare frigates but no large AA destroyers except HMS Bristol. The capabilities of Type 42 destroyer got nerfed by defence cuts

  10. At least Royal Navy officers in WW2 had combat experience. Jutland was the first major naval battle in over 100 years for the Royal Navy, they got lazy and complacent.

  11.  @michimatsch5862  Lend Lease supplied 59% of aviation fuel, 33% of explosives, 45% Of copper wire, 30% of tyres, 80% of trains and rolling stock, 60% of trucks, 56% of aluminium, 30% of sugar, 28% of machine tools, 15% of meat, . The US supplied nearly all the trains the Soviets needed and the rails and rolling stock to expand their rail network. The Soviet Union was starving once Ukraine fell.

It’s not like the Paras were flown straight to goose green from aldershot barracks in the UK. 2 Para had been sitting in freezing foxholes on Sussex mountain for about week beforehand and ordered to march over 10 miles in winter conditions just to reach their starting point. They then had to fight against a well entrenched enemy for 14 hours straight with no fire support.

  17.  @dclark142002  Nothing close to the scale of Jutland. Dogger bank and falklands doesnt really count as they were skirmishes between cruisers and a few battlecruisers. The Battle of Jutland saw 42 British and German battleships duke it out in a pitched battle on the high seas, the first and only time this has ever happened.

  22. Are you putting a price on peoples lives and freedom? The people living there don't want to be argie and its the armed forces responsibility to protect British citizens. Giving away the Falklands and abandoning its people would make Britain look weak on the international stage.

  38. By that logic the Russians lost at stalingrad. The British battlecruisers lost at jutland weren't important to the British, the dreadnoughts were. The German dreadnoughts were completely trashed after the battle while the British dreadnoughts were virtually undamaged.
