An attacking force usually suffers 2x more casualties than the defender in wars. The Falklands War was an incredible achievement. Clapped a nation over 8000 miles from home in 3 months with fewer casualties despite the argies holding all the advantages

R.Adm Sandy Woodward deliberatly placed his warships in harms way in Falkland Sound to help protect the troops landing. He knew that every sailor would have to fight for their lives; he also knew that not everyone would make it. That took guts to give an order like that and it paid off in the end.

  32. Admiral Sandy Woodward made the correct decision. Send in the expendable type 21 frigates to draw fire from the amphibious assualt ships. The UK could afford to lose some frigates, it could not afford to lose its soldiers, landing craft, and equipment. You have to understand, this is not the US Navy. In 1982 the UK was still bankrupt from WW2 so it didnt have a carrier force like it did in the 1950s. It could only send 20 harriers to the South Atlantic.

  48. Failed miserably except it pretty much single handily defeated the Kriegsmarine and Regia Marina. The USA and Canada helped but the UK overwhelmingly sunk the most tonnage.
