That’s what happens when you build a tunnel system. There really aren’t many good ways to get people in tunnels out of them in a way where they won’t escape, so it kind of forces more drastic measures. Look at what happened in Tora Bora, for instance, and Osama’s escape from them.

@MrStickyMouse Most people in the US (by 2-1 margins) want to remain in NATO. So no, very few Americans want to see the end of the American Empire.

Too small in size unless they colonize the rest of the Levant. It’s more likely the Indians revolt in the Gulf States and form their own colonial state in Arabia.

@CheekClapper879 Probably, but even if the US didn’t get involved, those cuts are needed anyways. I mean, it’s not like the US did any meaningful cuts when the world was at peace. So that argument makes no sense for me. There’s always something that’s more important for governments until something major happens that forces meaningful welfare cuts because there’s no other choice (see Canada in the 1990s). People in the US don’t want the US to get involved in foreign wars, but when you get more specific, the polling gets more dicey. Kind of like how they say we need to cut deficits, but don’t want to cut anything that would actually make a dent in the deficit (instead, focusing on a few billion in foreign aid to developing nations, or unspecified ‘waste’.)

You can fund another war, just cut some social spending or remove the Medicare Premium Cap. The entire Ukraine aid over the last year is ~$100B or so. In comparison, total US gov revenues for 2023 are around $4400B. And we need part of that money spent to keep the domestic defence-industrial base anyways sustainable (pre-Ukraine, a major worry was running out of supplies due to low stockpiles due to low defence-industrial production). Politically is a different question, but Ukraine is the only one where public polling has gone negative, and probably due to the stalemate.

@MrStickyMouse Americans wanted Trump to push the US more protectionist despite pro-trade elite rhetoric. Hence, why Biden copied him. Did they know the ins-and-outs of the TPP? Literally every time I pull out the 2-1 NATO statistic (from YouGov, if you’re interested), I always hear some variation of “the people are wrong”. Which to me, is asinine. Especially from self-proclaimed ‘populists’.
