“There are 4 Chinese for every American, a kill ratio that’s almost never been matched in history.” Nazis and Mongols: laughs

You have to remember that China never conquered Taiwan until the 17th century for a reason. Taiwan is a fortress island that’s geographically as difficult to invade as Japan itself. Also, there’s only a few months and beaches where an invasion is possible. Naval invasions are already difficult against a prepared and determined enemy. Japan in WW2 would have been able to give the Americans a bloody nose despite having already lost control of the seas and air. Taiwan is much smaller, but any invasion of Taiwan would be, long, brutal, and simply impossible without complete naval and air dominance. If the Chinese actually felt they could invade Taiwan by 2020, they would have already invaded when the world was facing COVID.

Russia is only allied with China because they have a common enemy.

@bigbrothersinnerparty297 Taiwan is highly motivated to fight and unlike the Japanese in WW2, are not going to be starving due to blockade. China recovered the first from the pandemic. There was a window in April when China had mostly recovered and the rest of the world hadn’t. Secondly, missiles go the other way as well. Missiles can destroy any invasion craft, and they’re not that hard to hide away from bombers. Even just a basic speedboat laden with explosives can seriously harm an invasion vessel (the Japanese did this in WW2, with some success.) Assuming you even win the battle in the skies.

@Raul_Menendez 2020: China will be the next superpower and overtake the USA! 2005: Europe will be the next superpower and overtake the USA! 1986: Japan will be the next superpower and overtake the USA! 1950: The Soviet Union will be the next superpower and overtake the USA!

@Frdyan Exactly, People need to keep in mind just because leaders act friendly towards enemy nations in some cases, it doesn’t mean they like those nations. It’s often a negotiating tactic. Moon though is known for wanting unification of Korea at all costs.

@Angel-je3bh Sanctions didn’t stop Russia.

@alfalafelstine1536 China claimed Okinawa by claiming it was a *tributary* of China. Not even actually part of China. They don’t really care, they just use historicity as an excuse to take land.

@Tall Jakee Why would they piss off every SE Asian nation for useless maritime claims in the South China Sea? And there’s a good reason. China is running out of water and needs to bring in more- either from the South or the North. Controlling Vlavadivostok would make the rest of Siberia much harder to defend. Also, they want to green the Gobi Desert with water from Tibet.

@PuntMan Taiwanese no longer view themselves as Chinese according to Pew. Also, if one’s going to go off the assumption China can’t take over Korea, they can’t take Taiwan. Every problem in Korea is magnified in Taiwan. Hell, if they can invade Taiwan, they’re strong enough to take over the entire first island chain, from Japan to Singapore. Japan in particular knows that they’re the next ones on the chopping block if Taiwan falls. They have every reason to fight to the death. Remember that Taiwan has a coast on the Pacific Ocean. How the Chinese block ships coming from Guam with missiles alone is hard to imagine.

ilgamesh Go watch CaspianReport’s video on Chinese claims.

ilgamesh China and Russia’s SOI directly compete with each other. China can’t stop itself from reverse-engineering Russian equipment. But Putin knows that turning his back on China means game over. He can’t fight both China and the West at the same time.

The nova renaissance I thought China’s Navy could fight to-to toe with America’s? Because otherwise, they’re not ready for an invasion. Oh sure, they could *land*, they just wouldn’t be able to resupply. It’d be the Chinese Operation Sea Lion, and the Chinese know it. Xi isn’t that dumb. They still need to bide their time.
1
@Donkeyearsa To be fair, Xi has made sweeping military reforms recently that make the PLA more of a competent force. Time will tell whether it’s enough.

@amrahmed7856 Yes, because a blockade isn’t something easy to break if you don’t have complete superiority on the seas, which is unlikely. Leningrad held out for 900 days because the Finns let the Soviets carry food across the ice of Lake Onega. Taiwan can hold out for a long time if they have even a little bit of a supply line to the rest of the world.

@livethefuture2492 The Chinese thought they had strongarmed the Taiwanese before the 2019 election and that they were under China’s influence. That didn’t happen. China also depends on resources from outside its borders and markets to export to because of its inability to develop a thriving consumer market (relative to the size of their economy, only Oil monarchies and Luxembourg are less dependant on consumption.

@Tall Jakee Hong Kong’s government was always controlled by the CCP and was never fully democratic.
