I honestly think by the time the European powers could really get thinking much about dividing China, considering its distance, they were either already too overstretched, or defeated in WW1. Japan and Russia were always going to be the most agressive in the region, followed by Germany, while Britain and France would be less keen to see the Status quo fail.

Except the colonization of India took over 50 years (not an accurate number because of expansions into Burma and East Pakistan, so it depends on your definition of 'India'). And that assumes it happens like India, and the Germans, who supported both the Qing and ROC until WW2, would accept China being destroyed. The only reason it did in OTL was because Japan was also its ally- and a seemingly more successful one. It isn't going to be pretty- and assuming this happens after the Scramble for Africa, Germany is going to be extremely aggressive in its foreign policy, as is Japan. And if WW1 happens, the colonial empires of Britain and France will be too overextended and exhausted to really want to partition more land.

Adam Thornton Puyi abdicated in 1912. As I said earlier, with WW1, there's simply no time. The fact that wars never broke out over the partition of Africa was due to the fact it was undeveloped wasteland at the time (mostly). And even then, they nearly did break out in several instances.

Tall Jakee ‘Han’ is an artificial ethnicity. Really, ‘Chinese’ is less of a language, and more a language family (like Latin). Guangdong is practically North Vietnam genetically and culturally (kind of). They don’t need to tap into minority groups, because almost everyone is a minority group that’s not on the Yellow River Valley to an extent.

MyUsersDark Sphere of Influence =/= annexation. Also, cool - Hong Kong is literally a speck of dust compared to the rest of China.

Tall Jakee No, it is. https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=%2FkTCTj%2FL&id=A1516F0989CB1C11E595910E28105F83FBCF320A&thid=OIP._kTCTj_Ljm14KI5ErNw9fAHaGS&mediaurl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fvku23lrh8i921.png&exph=1700&expw=2000&q=linguistic+map+china&simid=608014657379565992&ck=CAA105C5376AF551DAA416D06BB90814&selectedindex=2&qpvt=linguistic+map+china&form=EX0023&vt=4&sim=11&adlt=demote&shtp=GetUrl&shid=06c9e5aa-7f0f-43d7-bd71-d584ca1260f3&shtk=TGFuZ3VhZ2UgTWFwIE9mIENoaW5hICgyMDAweDE3MDApIDogTWFwUG9ybg%3D%3D&shdk=Rm91bmQgb24gQmluZyBmcm9tIHd3dy5yZWRkaXQuY29t&shhk=f3Q%2B4h7LfQrB3eUEEqDWz9Z7%2BulSwZx3HNqeELh8sK4%3D&shth=OSH.LVyRTVTqMPKDfTyHnvdOdw Note that the definition for ‘Mandarin’ includes sub dialects that aren’t really mutually intelligible. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sichuanese_dialects For example, Sichuanese has only 47.8% lexical commonality with Northern Mandarin. For comparison, Ukrainian and Belarusian have 80% lexical commonality with Russian. Ethnically, the people of Guangdong and Yunnan are closer to Vietnamese than those from Beijing. Which should not at all be surprising, since that part of China is susceptible to tropical diseases that the rest of China isn’t exposed to.
