The 90s were a REALLY bad and painful time for Eastern Europe, since they were haemorrhaging people and their economies had imploded with the fall of the Warsaw Pact.   2. 16:30 East Asia also had water, which the Middle East does not. China is already experiencing serious water stress- and without water, no industrialization, or really development, is really possible. Same thing with India. Also, “Industrial” and “Developed” are not the same thing. Turkey is Industrialized, but not developed. The Middle Income Trap is a thing, and countries have been trapped at that state for decades (Chile). We may be moving to a world with a lot of middle-income ‘industrial’ nations, but few high-income nations that really punch above their weight.
