@lorenzweissenberger8921 The thing is that a controlled hydrogen flare isn’t actually that dangerous, as long as any puncture can be kept small (hence, hydrogen being considered for use in fuel cell vehicles). A slow flare and landing would make an emergency landing relatively safe, compared to trying to land an airplane on water. The issue with the Hindenburg was that the skin was also flammable. So the hydrogen leak spread, causing an explosion.
