You’re not food or energy self-sufficient, so yes.

Maquina De Soldar soldadura arco sumergido Because China has a permanent seat on the UN council. Taiwan has been acting independently of the mainland for the several decades at this point. Things happen between China and Taiwan that make no sense if it was part of China- like the USA sending the navy in to prevent the military from moving from one part of China to another? Or there somehow being free elections in Taiwan despite democracy being banned in China? How does that work if Taiwan is in control of China? China is powerful enough to make everyone act as if Taiwan isn’t a country, but the reality is that China has about as much control over Taiwan as it has over South Korea.

@jyashin North and South Korea signed a truce, not an armistice. And even if we go by your definition, it means China is a part of Taiwan as well, because the Nationalists never gave up their claims to control of the mainland either. Declaring independence as Taiwan means that the ROC as to give up claims to the mainland. But let's face it, would the PRC do the same?

Attitude Because it’s an open secret this is part of a power game.

jyashin Well, Yeah, but that’s like saying North and South Korea aren’t separate Nations because they are technically still at war and both claim all of Korea. I’m going off the actual practical situation right now. Taiwan is not under control of the CCP.

Jason Jean Because that’s not a fair judgement when they hadn’t gained independence. An accurate judgement would be their colonizer’s claims to the South China Sea, which would be inherited (in theory) by the decolonized nations (France claimed the area). Also, the 9- dash line predates the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, which is the legal basis generally accepted as how oceanic claims should be created. The Chinese don’t accept this, so they’re not even really playing the same game as everyone else to begin with.
