  2. It may beat diesel rail, but Battery rail is a thing, and would actually work pretty well. Battery masses are only 2x that of diesel, which considering the size of your average freight train, is not a big loss.

  3.  @caferace8418  They’re currently still in the early phase of existence, along with fuel cell trains. https://www.ge.com/news/reports/leading-charge-battery-electric-locomotives-pushing-us-freight-trains Though GE is investing in the tech. Trains overall have not been very high on the list to make green- probably because it requires more power and there’s not as much government incentive.

  4.  @caferace8418  Well, cargo trains actually spend quite a bit of time at either end of the tracks loading and unloading.
