  1. Peter, if you were paying any attention to the history of US politics, you’d know this was a possibility. In fact, this exact sort of thing happened before… in 2012. The GOP had a great midterm, and Romney won Independents by 5 points. Obama still won due to strong minority turnout and WWC support following the auto bailouts. —- Also, ‘Independents’ only voted for Harris by a few points in 2024. Biden won them by double digits in 2020. That’s even higher than *2008.* Your prediction was impossible even if the other shifts never happened.
