While a lot of what she says is true, the great fiction that immigrants were welcome from the time of Windrush comes from the belief that they were invited. They were not. They were not asked to come, and they were not needed. The English were not consulted then or now about foreigners coming to live amongst them, and successive governments have increased immigration instead of responding to public opinion and reducing it.
