  2.  @johndoe-ss9bz  I was reinforcing the original comment by PJB. The English were not in the rear. A boy of 15 who lived a few doors down from where I live now died on the day of the first landing. These troops were intended more for occupation than battle. It was meant to be a navy show with infantry support, not the other way round. In WWII special forces (Commandos) were trained for months for this kind of operation.
