@HeadsFullOfEyeballs Yes Napoleon. Some men were cursing their mothers and wishing they had never been born. There must have been a heck of an indoctrination going on for them not to go to the true source of their suffering.

@monashsq4001 Napoleon himself declared war on the French Republic: he crowned himself Emperor - did you miss that detail? Far from abolishing monarchies he crowned his own family members. German soldiers had no business dying in Russia for the sake of this ego maniacal upstart.

@universalis8208 That's a fair point, except Napoleonic France had no power of coercion over his memoirs. The fact he was a German (Bavaria later joined the allies against Napoleon) is why I believe he was held back from criticising Napoleon only by his own (subverted) mind.
