Relying entirely on skilled migrants is basically a ponzi scheme that doesn't actually fix the problem, just outsources it, leading to new problems, like lack of housing and rising cost of living. A possible solution is to encourage young people to move into these industries that require help, with incentives including discounted education and tax breaks. Not just constantly looking internationally to fix it due to lack of local solutions.

A rampant property market which is due to record numbers of largely wealthy, skilled migrants propping up the market. Vicious cycle

Yep, you're seeing it as we've all seen it for years - skill migrants basically a ponzi scheme that doesn't actually fix the problem, just outsources it, leading to new problems, like lack of housing and rising cost of living. A possible solution is to encourage young people to move into these industries that require help, with incentives including discounted education and tax breaks. Not just constantly looking internationally to fix it due to lack of local solutions.

Over 2 years of restrictions = lot of retirements, in any single given year it would number in the 10s of thousands. Times that by 2, then bring in no migrants or migrants here leaving. Also, American data shows many have never returned back to work - perhaps fast tracking early retirement (in Australia the baby boomer generation are the wealthiest due to property gains and can afford to do this)

That's an extremely low number, for example in America there are around 7000 registered epidemiologists and virtually none disputed the govt's covid response because they understand the medical implications. But as the episode shows, there's declines in every field - not just doctors. The reason was because immigration is not a solution. It's a band aid fix, which then creates other issues, like lack of housing. And when you have no migration for nearly 3 years and people naturally retire or move on, you end up with a deficit. The key is to actually encourage young people to move into these industries with incentives including discounted education and tax breaks. Not just constantly looking internationally to fix the lack of local solutions.
