There are many countries where black Africans are very rare, then no real community.
You have a real community where you have historical links with Africa, like slavery, or colonization, or immigration.
For a long time the only link with the rest of the world for black Africa was the Arabs, in north Africa and middle orient, and they had to pass the Sahara of the west coast or the Nile Valley. Because in black Africa there was no great transport means along rivers , sea, or with animals like horses ( because of diseases ), it means that they were mostly traveling on their feet.
Then for a long time blacks oustide Africa, else slaves were merchants, religious peoples , adventurer, may be soldiers or mercenaries, etc... peoples with a specific reason, and they did not form communities, but were individuals here and there for the most part.
Cars, bus, trains, plan,es, etc... are thing of the 20th century , before travels were longs, could be hard, dangerous, and you had to have to find food, shelter, etc... all along the road, you had some territories at war, etc....
Don't project event of our time , to the past.
