As an analogy, it’s happening today in Ukraine. Everyone is refusing to see the incredibly dangerous right wing fanatics that are armed to the teeth in Ukraine and what they’re going to their own citizens. Most people have no idea about Ukraine’s recent history of civil war and ethnic cleansing and genocide that had left their society scarred and with deeply unresolved issues, far greater than in Yugoslavia. No one wants to see this.
