@AnEngagedNormie the measurement of and test for both consciousness and intelligence are subject to you definitions of them. Currently there are no universally agreed definitions or tests of either. Of course, you are free to choose your definitions and tests and measure them based on that, however this is in effect just an arbitrary judgement. This is one of the current issues with AI and AGI, in that at the moment even if it was to develop, there is no guarantee that we would recognise it, or reach universal agreement on it.

Maybe the universe is just a huge brain, and supernovas are neurons firing or brain cells dying, and black holes are memories being wiped or neural networks being rerouted.

@AnEngagedNormie yeah that’s pretty vague, how do you test for them? Octopi and crows have consciousness, supercomputers have raw processing power.

@AnEngagedNormie you say the fact your conscious is undeniable but I don’t know that. Your may, in the same way as an AI, be merely mimicking the behavioural patterns and responses of consciousness. Without a valid definition and test with which to measure it, I have no way of knowing for sure. With animals they generally use mirror tests and theory of mind tests etc to find out how conscious they are. If you app you that to humans, social media would indicate that sadly far too many of us are conscious.
