Comments by "Guinness" (@GuinessOriginal) on "Suez Canal reopens after giant stranded ship is freed - BBC News" video.
@saffron1977 yes, you're the Indian captain who attempted a 3 point turn with a 400m long ship in a 300m wide canal 🤡 😂. You should have listened to your Egyptian pilot when he said no

@casper5379 funny how the canal was full of ships and none of them crashed in the sandstorm. I suppose you think this is the only sandstorm to hit any ship in the suez canal ever? The captain and crew were quite clearly out of their depth and couldn't handle the conditions, they should have listened to their pilot and followed instructions. It's like when you're flying a plane ifr instead of vfr in low visibility, you have to rely on your instruments

@saffron1977 you must be the captain who grounded the ship

@sv4647 it's got 11 identical siblings all whom go through the suez canal.

Maybe that's what the captain and crew were waiting for, a salary raise... Not sure they'll be getting one
4
@alexveldhuis6004 if only the captain had listened to the pilot

@brook316 if you're sending livestock and fresh produce via ship on a 2 week plus journey you don't expect them to arrive in great condition
2
@casper5379 no it was incompetence by the captain and crew and communication issues with the pilot.

@sv4647 the ever golden, ever gifted, ever genius, ever glory.... I could go on

@sv4647 you said no other ship as big as the evergiven went through the suez canal. She has ten other identical sister ships owned by evergreen that go through the suez canal. Of course mishaps can happen when there's human error. This particular ship was crewed by the cheapest merchant seaman available, call me cynical but I don't think their seafaring skills were the highest priority when they were employed

@casper5379 the news can't even get the name of the ship right love. If you crash your car because you aquaplane in water it is still your fault you lost control. If the conditions were being the capabilities of the ship or the crew they should have waited. Only the captain can make that decision and clearly he made the wrong call. Visibility would have been very poor so they would have been relying on their instruments for navigation. This is a highly skilled job and particularly tricky. The complexities of manoeuvring a ship this big throb such a narrow channel in those conditions cannot be underestimated, and unfortunately our seems as if the captain did just that

@carlogonzalez2177 some hedge fund will be shorting out no doubt. Funny that oil refinery in the Philippines blowing up the day after they got the ship moving. Someone reaches the price of oil to go up
1
@casper5379 the conditions were beyond the capabilities of the captain and crew, he shouldn't have gone through in conditions he couldn't handle
1
@casper5379 ever heard of a weather report? Ever heard of anchors?
1
@casper5379 none of the other ships ran aground in the same conditions so their captains and crews were clearly more competent.

@casper5379 lol I'm not avoiding anything love. You're the kind of person who crashes their car and always finds someone or something else to blame
