Some questions: 1) Are you using chatGPT or GPT4? GPT4 is far superior at coding. 2) are you using a context prompt, i.e giving it seed instructions on how you want it to respond, code, debug, what protocols and libraries to use etc? 3) are you using it to debug the code? 4) are you using it to run the code? 5) One tip I’ve found very useful is plugging the code it writes back into it and asking it to describe step by step what it does. It will often a) pick up bugs and highlight them and b) you can see easily where it’s going wrong and not doing what you really want. It’s also quicker than stepping though 400 lines of code. You can then just update the written steps to do what you actually want and tell it to code them. Couple of iterations of that and I usually get something pretty near that doesn’t take much debugging, and then I’ll tell it to debug it. Whole process is usually 30 mins- an hour, to produce code that would usually take me between 4-8 hours to write

It’s already way beyond this. Look at business intelligence saved reporting tools. You can stick a multimodal LLM on a data source and just give it a load of reporting requirements and it just builds them. Now imagine AI inside or connected to BI tools. Now inside them embedded in ERP tools. Now imagine ten years from now

@mikez3307 chat gpt can do more managerial tasks better than it can do programming tasks, and makes less mistakes doing them. Managers won’t be immune from this, especially not those managers

@antman7673 all valid, and I’ll add a few more. 1) this is a bad as AI ever going to be at anything. So people who say GPT4 is rubbish at coding (it isn’t if you know how to use it), just wait to see how much better it will be in 3-5 years. Plus there’s already at least 3 AI specific code assistants available, and when they start training them on code that actually works from systems etc rather than buggy snippets from the internet code assistants will produce high quality error free code. 2) in 3 years and probably less, all new phones, laptops, TVs and state of the art white goods and cars will have their own native inbuilt multimodal LLMs that can response like Siri and Alexa and will be far more capable than west we have now. All ERP systems and reporting systems and a lot of other software packages will have the same thing, and all these AI tools will be in constant communication with each other, autonomously learning and automating tasks. In ERP systems, the native AI will learn what every job role does in the system and create digital workers to assist them in those tasks and functions, and there will be a rise in autonomous automation

@mplovecraft I didn’t. Sales people are full of hype, especially when they’ve got company shares to sell. He’s well known for over inflating his stock. What we have got are cars that can self drive and park on big wide American roads and Texas are trialing driverless lorries between Houston and Dallas

@rjorgeish yeah data engineering is definitely more AI applicable especially in the medium term as lots of businesses will need them to Sort their data out in order to implement AI

@costelinha1867 life in IT heads citadel having to learn new skills every 5 years you’ll be using something brand new that didn’t exist 5 years earlier. Now, even more so, probably be 2 years if that

@foreverhumanpodcast yeah you’re just passing that off without explaining it, I use AI to come to with solution architecture designs and it’s very creative at it, give it the right guidance and it comes up with some neat ideas, so saying it’s not imaginative is nonsense.
