@paidninja1413 the Conservative party has a terrible track record of electing leaders in the past 15 years. They’ve all proved to be more incompetent than the previous incumbent, and the latest choice is underlining that fact massively. Sunak was equally responsible for the mess Boris created and tainted by association, and also for his perceived stabbing him in the back for personal glory. Boris is still very popular amongst Conservative party members.

@rob-123 salaries haven’t risen in over ten years

The Netherlands probably has a more accurate definition of inflation. The U.K. uses the cpi rather than the higher rpi. The cpi does not include fuel, utilities or mortgage or rent payments, and so is not a true reflection of the price rises that hurt people’s pockets the most.

@shobukirifuda145 your should be comparing the ruble to its level before the invasion and sanctions, not going back to 2014 which is obviously before the sanctions that were imposed after the annexation of Crimea, don’t accuse someone of misrepresentation then do exactly the same thing yourself. Have you seen the pound’s fall from 2007 to now? It’s pretty much exactly the same as the ruble, which means relatively speaking to the pound the ruble hasn’t fallen it’s just the dollar has risen. One big reason for this is the huge US dollar foreign currency reserves and U.S. debt China holds, which it uses to artificially prop up the dollar in order to make exports to the U.S. more competitive. This is actually a big structural long term problem for the U.S., because there isn’t a lot of options to combat this short of nose diving their economy, and China could break the dollar and crash it anytime it wanted by flooding the market

Supermarkets near me have all installed security gates after the tills that stop you leaving until security buzz you out. Clearly they are anticipating a huge increase in theft as Christmas approaches. I can see it getting violent tbh, there’s been several incidents of staff being assaulted when trying to stop people leaving already.

@MrMeerkat818 in 2007 the pound was above 2 dollars, whereas the euro was 1.6. The pound has fallen a lot further than the euro.

@mr.boomguy yeah, she was elected by a few hundred thousand Conservative party members who have consistently shown very poor judgement for the past 12 years.

@timsel6228 the same Wall Street forex speculators kwarteng had meetings with before announcing his policy

Well said

What do you do for a living Sarah? You’re clearly smart and know what you’re talking about. Fancy a role as an advisor shaping the next government’s policies?

@ClarenceBeeks1 you clearly don’t live in London 😂 sounds like bs to me, unless you’ve got a grow and are selling it

@ln5747 you think the U.K. will get invaded by Russia if we overthrow our government? 😂 Russia can’t hold territory 100m from their own border, I think they’d struggle to make it to Britain. And Ukraine was invaded because of the push to join NATO and Biden telling Zelensky to play hardball with Putin , which turned out to be not such a good idea
3
@teaja211 not in Europe, we don’t pay medical bills. One of the benefits of a national health system. You get treatment for any medical emergency and don’t pay a penny extra.
2
@rabsmiff we had them in 2010 and were are in a far worse state than we’d were then. Ukraine had a coup in 2014 and overthrew their government and it was all fine; perhaps we should do the same. If it’s good enough for Ukraine it’s good enough for the U.K. we need to start our own maiden protests
2
@striker44 you’re thinking of Northern Rock and HBOS
2
@YU-ed5wn it’s a lot worse than it sounds
2
Where did you move to Rebecca?
2
@sean6653 absolute nonsense. It’s one reason only and only a theoretical one. A definite cause is companies putting up prices and making record profit’s
2
Your wage increase has nothing to do with the causes of inflation

@Michaelanderson1985 I don’t so I won’t

@Tuppoo94 Russia is not going to invade Finland, they can’t even keep territory 100km deep into Ukraine. Plus if Russia wanted to invade Finland why would they have waited until now to do it? Finland always agreed to be neutral and out of NATO and that was good enough for Russia. Ukraine reneged on that agreement and here we are. This could have so easily all been avoided but as soon as Biden got in Zelensky was told to play hardball with Putin and threaten to invade Crimea and the Donbas
1
@rabsmiff well Ukrainians were praised for doing it and for overthrowing their government so why not us?
1
@ATTILATHETOM your analogy is nonsense because according to you everyone had got tons of cash and is splurging it all over the place, it’s the exact opposite, everyone is skint af and prices are skyrocketing making them even poorer. Prices are going up because companies are putting them up and making record profits because of it. No price goes up without someone making a conscious decision to raise it.

It’s already worse. Truss has managed to make Boris look like a safe pair of hands within a week. That’s quite an achievement. I’m not sure she’ll last until Christmas. There’s something fundamentally wrong with our political system for it to allow so many incompetent people to get to such positions of power. We’re supposed to get the best people at the top and we’ve been getting the absolute worst.
1
@ranjeetsarker776 aha, a rabid nationalist. I wouldn’t get too smug, you still have 750m people without clean water or basic sanitation

@kishorbhat743 it’s the USA pushing Ukrainian membership of NATO. Germany and France were dead against it

@hydroponichomesteader6852 how does that help exactly? They won’t be cold, they have an abundance of gas and it’s all very cheap
