Did you forget to watch the video? The main reason they went under is because they bought long-term fixed rate bonds with the short-term deposit money. The risk was exposure to the long-term bond market not to their depositors. With people like you failing to understand the problem, even when it’s explained clearly to them, it’s no wonder that this kind of thing keeps happening.

@jp34604 it’s the same management team in charge of SVB that was in charge at Lehman brothers, so how exactly were they destroyed? They ask got their executive bonuses days before the collapse of both too, but I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.

@epicchannel4724 bankers aren’t that clever, they’re mostly high on cocaine and know that they won’t be prosecuted because the bank will be bailed out with taxpayers money and they’ll still get paid and their bonuses and new jobs elsewhere so they honestly don’t care.

@888strummer it’s traditionally the other way round. They borrow long term from depositors and lend short term, their profit being the difference between lower long term saving interest rates and higher short term borrowing rates.
