I don’t understand why this isn’t the first thing they teach in German lessons in school. As a kid I always felt German was like English but in code, and we were never taught the key. Instead it was listen by repetition and wrote, and I hated it. If I’d been taught this, and the reason behind it, it would have been so much easier and more interesting.

@moonhunter9993 makes so much more sense. Explain what the words mean that and how they’re related and people can work it out for themselves

@saba1030 I knew that about the Welsh but had completely forgotten! It wasn’t what the romans or Bretons called them and it’s not what the Welsh call themselves either, so it makes sense

@moonhunter9993 makes it a lot easier and more interesting, and you learn rules that you can apply and work out what words are and mean without leaving them specifically

@gessie I think that might have something to do with the old German habit of invading and brutally occupying it’s neighbours - you know, the same reason half the world can’t stand America these days. Football supporters hate the club across the city never mind anyone else as a matter off course so blaming the national pastime of hating each other on them is a bit trite. They will continue the tradition of course, but it’s a bit bigger than them
