  3. Dale Steel and how long is your working life? Clearly you weren't working on the 80s when millions of people experienced negative equity. I've studied economics and history for 50 years and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt you're talking absolute rubbish. You have a very narrow window of experience, based on a very short working history in a very localised area. That does not extrapolate well nationally, internationally or historically. You might as well say it will always snow in December everywhere because it always has in every December you remember where you've been.

  4. Dale Steel lots of people who bought houses in the late 70s and 80s couldn't afford their mortgages when interest rates skyrocketed to 17.5℅ and house prices in the north especially fell sharply as a result of that and the high unemployment rate and double dip recession.

  5. Dale Steel you're not reading what I'm writing, house prices fell and mortgages rose so much in the 80s that millions of people on the UK experienced negative equity and couldn't afford to keep their houses they were losing money on.

  7. Dale Steel you said house prices always rise. They don't. Now you're saying that house prices always rise eventually after 25 years or so. I can assure you that if we have ax repeat of the 80s and interest rates jump to 17.5℅ house prices won't be rising in many places for a while and a lot of people will lose their homes because they won't be able to afford their mortgages, just like the 80s.
