  2. Reagan and Kennedy hated communists with a passion and yet both of them saw sense in doing deals with them to avoid a hot war and parental nuclear confrontation. Modern American politicians can’t even do deals with Russian capitalist oligarchs, preferring to push them into a hot war for profit, despite the risk of nuclear Armageddon
