These days the rich and powerful have telesales scam operations and other far more financially viable corrupt scams than having customs collect arbitrary import taxes. The police in India still collect backsheeshes if you want to get away with minor crimes

Same for Vietnam, Singapore, China, all of which also had a much better response to the pandemic. Blaming your predecessors from over 80 years ago for the failures and corruption of your current politicians is a cop out. They don’t serve India and the common Indian, they only serve themselves, and they hide behind nationalism to gain common support for it. I suppose you blame the British engineers who built the Indian railways for all the accidents and breakdowns as well
