It also didn’t used to buy anything off the shelf but developed it all in house. Not sure if tufts still the case but either way they built up a lot of serious tech capability, and their ROI on technology investments was light years ahead of anyone else outside the tech sector

@iandakariann mobile phones first came out commercially to the public about 30 years ago, safe time as the internet. Look at mobile phones and the internet now. Imagine where AI is going to be in 30 years. There’s no question that the world is going to look very different in 30 years. When Jeffro Thule mechanised agriculture no one thought it was going to see 97% of the people working the land lose their jobs, livelihoods and homes within a generation and pave the way for the industrial revolution. Real life use case: I work for an AI company that specialises in developing models for financial solutions. We had creditors of a loans company that has gone bankrupt approach us on a Monday. They had 6 million loan agreement documents they needed analysing. The standard procedure is to hire 30 lawyers and 10 accountants to spend 6 weeks going through them by hand, at a cost of $20m. We took an LLM and trained it over 2 days to analyse legal documents and handed it to them on the Thursday. They spent Friday fine tuning it on their loan agreements. By Saturday evening it had answered 200 000 questions with 98.5% accuracy. Anyone who thinks this isn’t having an impact is living in a dreamworld.

@arcaicoye AI will make software engineers 4-5 times more productive. That means 1 got using AI is going to replace 4 people not using it.

@elijaholing marketing jobs are definitely under threat, AI is shockingly good at it. Not really surprising tbh

@iandakariann this is the first release of AI and it’s the worst it’s ever going to be

@iandakariann this AI already is, it’s making coders 4x more productive, if there are coders who use AI to do 4x more work they’ll replace 3 coders e who don’t use AI. This is happening now. Lawyers and accountants are being replaced for the same reason
