@hilite975 this was a common gestapo tactic back in ww2. They would detain and torture someone then release them, watch where they went and who they associate with then arrest them and their associates. This is psychologically devastating because the victim thinks he has managed to survive only to find out it was all a trick and now he has betrayed his friends. It also gives the sbu plausible deniability if they decide to disappear him for good, because they can just say it wasn’t them, they had him and released him
