Worst champions ever seen

If this was any other side in the so called big six the manager would be sacked

@aryanramchurn6481 yes, like the world record goal keeper and defender signings

Not a coincidence that this run has started at the same time he did

@musclecat7910 I don't know, Liverpool didn't seem to miss Allison or Van Dijk when they first got injured. I think they miss fabiniho and Henderson in midfield more, and thiago doesn't have the same pressing, positional awareness or get the ball forward to the strikers as quickly. He looks good but if you analyse his overall effectiveness he often gets bypassed off the ball in transition due to being out of position, not tracking back quickly enough and not pressing, and on the ball he prefers short balls sideways and 5 yard forward and back 1-2s than longer passes into space for the forwards to run into. As a result the opposition always had the time to get back into shape and make it more difficult. One of Liverpool's key strengths was pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch then launching rapid counter attacks by immediately feeding their forward line. You can talk about defensive injuries all you want but that doesn't explain the lack of goals and scoring opportunities. I don't think klopp has helped himself regarding the defence either, that was the 21st centre back pairing Liverpool have fielded this season. He needs to just pick a pair of defenders and stick to them and let them build a partnership, obviously they're not going to be as good as the first choice but they're not going to be worse than fielding 21 different partnerships either and at least you're giving them the opportunity to learn and get better

Gabriel Chin how is that the best Premier league side? They had the most successful season but they weren't the best side in the premier league because they didn't get the most points, most wins, most goals etc. You might win 3 Olympic gold medals for the 100m and be the most successful sprinter but the best sprinter is the one who holds the world record for the 100m

Gabriel Chin how is winning a treble harder than 100 points? 100 points has only ever been done once in almost 150 years of English football. Man u 99 aren't the only team to win a treble. Liverpool won a treble under houllier. City won the domestic treble a couple of years ago. I remember united fans celebrating the treble they won under mourinhio. Everyone will remember 100 points, 100 goals, biggest winning margin and greatest goal difference ever as they were quite simply the greatest champions of England ever seen, all the records are proof of that. If someone else beats those records and wins the league then they will be the greatest. Liverpool had the chance last session but didn't quite manage it. You have far fewer chances to lose or draw games to get more than 100 points than you do if you want to win a treble

@dirtycharlatan9746 last season city lost kompany laporte and aguero for half the season, they still won a trophy and finished second in the league, perhaps a poor season by their standards but a good season by anyone else's. United would be dead without bruno they're a one man team, not sure they miss maguire as much. And yeah there's another treble forgot about that one, not all in the same season but hey
3
Gabriel Chin barca didn't just win the treble they won 6 trophies in one season, much better than utds mickey mouse treble
3
I've heard them blaming var as well which is hilarious after last year
3
The pressure of being champions and the expectations of that has got to then
2
@welshlad6427 OK so they'll be better then Leicester who nearly got relegated the season before they won the league and Chelsea who were in the relegation zone at Christmas when they sacked mourinhio. That's a relief, only the 3rd worst in Premier league history. This from a team that was 8 points clear at Christmas and for whom the signings of thiago and jota made defending the title "a formality"
2
@welshlad6427 yeah I think they'll be top 4 next season, i think they're only 3 points off top 4 now? If so it's not quite as bad as is being made out. If they go on a run of half a dozen wins the teams around then are so inconsistent they'll shoot back up the league
2
Gabriel Chin how is it that city hold the record for the biggest home ground attendance in English football if they've never had any fans? 😂 Man utds record attendance is at maine road when they used to play there and all the City fans used to go to watch them. City have always had more fans in Manchester than United and history proves that
2
Gabriel Chin as I days, there's plenty of trebles that have been won by plenty of teams, but only one has ever got 100 points. You have a much smaller margin of error to get 100 points then to win a treble. Simply put, you can afford to have more losses and draws when winning a treble than getting 100 points, never mind so the other records city broke that season. The most successful team in a season is the treble winning united side. The best league champions of England are the City centurions and history proves that
2
Gabriel Chin bayern won the treble last year. Barca have won but only the treble but all 6. Real Madrid have won the treble. Ajax have won the treble. Benfica have won the treble

@caius9971 so you'd say someone who wins the 100 and 200m Olympic gold and World championships gold is better than the holder of of those two world records? In the domestic cup back then you can draw a game and get a replay, even more you get a chance to win on pens. So you could have 4 or 5 draws on the way to winning a domestic Cup. In the CL you can lose two games in the group stages then one leg of each of the knockout stages, so technically you can win the champions league having only won 3 more games than you've lost. You can win the league losing and drawing plenty of games, as united did in 99 and plenty of other times before and since. To get 100 points or more, the margin for error is far less, you cannot afford to lose or draw that many games. Trebles have been won multiple times. Only one team has ever got 100 points in almost 150 years of English football. United were definitely a more successful team, but they weren't the best champions of England in history.
2
Gabriel Chin that's funny because a few years ago United fans were celebrating the treble they won with mourinhio, saying city players get money while united players get trebles. I notice united have the highest wage bill in world football and recently received 60m from the government to make up for lost revenue
2
@caius9971 more dominant overall yes, more successful overall yes, more dominant in the league, no
2
Gabriel Chin it's lose. And you've just proven my point for me, thank you. You can afford to lose and draw far more games by simply getting enough points to win the league, winning a cup (you used to be able to draw every round and get a replay and even more you get extra time and penalties) and winning the champions league, where you only need to win 2 or 3 more games than you lose to win it. You can lose 5 games, win 7 and draw 1 and still win the CL. So to get a 100 points there is much less margin for error
2
Gabriel Chin in the 60s. They also won 3 champions leagues in a row which is another treble
2
Gabriel Chin what are you talking about? Utd never won the cl 3 times in a row, they haven't even won it twice in a row like Liverpool and forest. Real Madrid won trebles in the 60s, they've also won 3 cls in a row which is probably harder than man utds micky mouse treble but I'm sure you'll tell me it isn't and utd could easily win 3 cls in a row if they wanted to. They'd have to in it to win though, which of course they're not
2
Gabriel Chin city won all their domestic cup games in their treble why are you training rubbish? Unlike the cl where you can lose 5 games only win 7 and still win the cl
2
@A63League when Liverpool are losing anfield sounds exactly the same when it's full as it does now. Ask any United, Arsenal or Chelsea fan who's seen their team win there over the years
2
Focusing on the champions league
1
Gabriel Chin he had it taken off him for refusing to serve, so it's a moot point whether the achievement is greater than holding the belt for the record amount of time. Many regard mayweather as tbe. However boxing isn't football, the fact remains in almost 150 years of english league football no one has ever got 100 points except for that city side. United have had more chances than anyone to it and never got anywhere near it. Even arsenal's invincibles or mourinhio's Chelsea didn't do it. The measure of a team in the league is how many points they get, by the definition city are the greatest champions of England ever seen. Not the most successful team in a season England has ever seen, only the second, but they are the greatest champions of England ever seen
1
@caius9971 you may not draw those games though. And today you just go to extra time and pens. The point is you can get away with not winning a lot more often. The margin for error to get to 100 points is far less
1
@caius9971 i don't think for a minute city will win all 4 but if they did I would say they are they are the most successful English side in a single season, however the centurions were better champions because they got more points

Back to competing for the top 4
