@GloryCarrier22 did you serve under him? Do you know anyone who did? No, so your opinion is irrelevant. Monty wasn't at all bothered about the lives of his men.

John Cornell monty made a lot of mistakes. What was that frontal assault he ordered the wiped out over half the men?

@GloryCarrier22 not sure your point? My grandad served under monty and he told me it is a complete myth that his men lived and respected him. They didn't at all. They thought he was an incompetent idiot who was only there because of his class and to earn medals and glory with their blood

@katrinapaton5283 yeah my grandfather was a fool who saw all his mates slaughtered in a full frontal assault under monty's orders. Don't believe the hype. History is written by the Victors, if d day had failed all monty's flaws would have been exposed, even though his contribution to d day failed miserably at the cost of tens of thousands of lives.

@GloryCarrier22 that isn't the only reason. There were a lot of mistakes, both in planning and execution, it was a gamble to nothing, because the war would still to be won afterwards. It's just that these men wouldn't live to see it but monty was never afraid to let him men die in order to gain medals and glory
