And the Russians have been pretty impressive when it comes to technology, particularly when you consider they were a totally peasant country less than 100 years ago with no industrial output at all.

Much smaller more modern maritime specific steam engines available at the time were capable of producing ten times that. They bought the cheapest food available, if you pay peanuts you get monkeys, and that shit still goes on all over the world, it's called under regulated capitalism. Look at Boeing outsourcing the mcas system on the 737 max to Indian programmers as an example. Or enron, or lehmann brothers and the 2008 crash, or the polluted and toxic water supply in flint michigan. If you think that shit, or promoting idiots to positions of power, is restricted to England you're brainwashed. Look at trump.

And war most of the time, at least when it comes to ships planes and tanks. Less so for the grunts I guess. As for those ships, they were fairly old sail ships retrofitted with defunct railway steam engines. There were far more modern ships available at the time with maratime specific stream engines that were smaller, lighter and so much more efficient they could produce ten times the power. It's pretty clear that those ships, like the provisions, were bought on the cheap. The problem with the bidding process is when it's run solely by beaurocratic bean counters, you always end up in a race to the bottom with the very cheapest thing they think they can get away with palming off on you, instead of what you actually need or what gives the best value. One example is the first incarnation of the sa80. Another is Boeing's mcas system on their 737 max's. A better idea is to consider cost as one element of the bidding process alongside value and engineering etc etc. Put it this way, if you're buying a kettle or parts for your car, do you always go for the very cheapest option?

It was polish running Poland within the Warsaw pact, I guess they should have liberated themselves like Yugoslavia did if they’d wanted compete independence from the ussr. Germany had been under occupation since ww2 and still is now, effectively. Britain had to hand over most of it’s overseas military bases to the Americans, so it’s not like Western Europe were exactly totally independent either.

The polish has as much help as they did if not more, for example there were plenty of polish in England and the USA arranging help, ac lot more polish than Yugoslavians, but the polish weren’t anywhere near as effective . There’s a reason stories of Yugoslavian partisans are the stuff of legends and nobody’s heard about anything to do with the polish resistance, apart from the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto. Blaming your failures on your allies is a cop out, Tito had to fight a civil war against the chechniks as well as unite Croats, Serbs, Bosnians, slovenians and kosovans to fight together against the Germans. The polish never had those issues. Funny how every pole I meet always blames polish defeats on their allies, i bet you credit polish success in Russia on the Lithuanians when you shared your empire with them, don’t you?

Most of congress have never served and wouldn’t have a clue what deserves a medial, and frankly they have a lot more important and pressing problems to solve other than debating whether someone should get a medal or not for a battle that happened 70 years ago, something most of them are totally unqualified to have an opinion on anyway
