  2. The Hollywood MacDonald’s Coca Cola push of homogeneous American culture in the media on British youth is by far and away the number one reason for the loss of regional accents. At least English teachers try and teach kids English instead of American. Americans always moan that they can’t understand British regional accents and that we should learn to speak English properly

Problem is, if Germany had won that war they would have become far too powerful for the British to take on, so it was a forced necessity. In addition to which, the threat of war was hoped to be enough to warn the Germans off, and once the threat is made you can’t very well not make good on it, or you’ll never be taken seriously again
