The Story of Life thing is, we soon will have the technology but I don't think it will be used to give everyone a better life, at least not before some people get even richer and a lot of people become unemployed or can only work for slave wages and become destitute and desperate. Some countries like Finland and Canada are already experimenting with a universal basic income which solves a lot of basic problems including the headache, overhead and beaurocracy of benefits and has been proven to only cost slightly more but I can't see every country implementing it
