  38. Andronikus Komnenos Shot down by US missile defence systems that mistook it for a missile being fired. The last commander that shot down an Iranian passenger jet after mistaking it for a missile got a medal for it so it's not that surprising it's happened again.

Another Iranian passenger jet being shot down by the Americans would absolutely necessitate the loss of American lives which the Iranians are very keen to avoid at all costs, so much so they have them a warning of their air strike. Remember, the Iranians never got revenge for the first passenger jet the US shot down. But the commander got a medal fur out.
