Nationalising companies, resources, etc and putting them under the centralised control is socialism. There's a massive difference between governance, and socialism. In some variants the totalitarianism is dictatorial, in others it's by committee, in others still they pretend there's some kind of voting taking place. We see the latter in the reminants of the CCP. But they're all totalitarian, that is in fact a universal, and necessarily so, feature of socialism.

Moreover, laws only stretch as far as their jurisdiction. But companies did away with confinement to nation states decades ago. They have become sovereign unto themselves. If something happens in one country, they can just pull out and the market from that country can still reach them even if they aren't operating within those borders. Think of all the Chinese products from companies with no local presence (and thus no legal jurisdiction over then) that you buy every day. You can't fix this problem thinking in terms of nation states and their laws
