If a scammer picks a popular bank in an area and calls or emails people claiming to be from it, they'll get some people who don't bank there. But they'll also get many people who do. We also don't know if this woman has been included in a third party hack the exposed her credit card or bank account details. The problem is there are so many ways for scammers ro get this information. Many people offer it up on a platter via social media and other websites. Many websites and apps have improper storage practices for user data. It's your responsibility as a user to find out before you provide them with any information. It's usually included in their terms of service, which is why you should always read the whole document before you declare that you have. Every commercial password manager in existence has breach monitoring. If you set this up you will be alerted if a dataset containing your monitored details is leaked or placed for sale online. If you don't have a password manager to generate 24+ character pseudorandonly generated unique passwords for each and every account you have at this point then breaches of your accounts are on you and no one else. Being online is not free.

It completely blows my mind that cheques still exist and are regularly used in yankville, in 2023. Whilst the rest of the world hasn't used them for personal account holders in 25 years and are mostly 90%+ cashless societies today.
