Do they call themselves experts, or does the news editor call them an expert to make the story seem more substantive. Imagine you're at work one day just doing your job and a research assistant or junior producer from the news media calls to ask you some questions about the industry you're in. Then they randomly start asking you about a situation you hadn't even heard of before they said something. Then, the publish that entire interview and call you an expert. Imagine. Then some guy on the internet says you're a doof for calling yourself an expert, when you just answered the phone at work...
