  1. Imagine being in opposition, unable to implement anything like this kind of policy, but still pretending like anything you're doing is at all relevant or likely to happen. Great distraction from their lack of any competent plan on inflation, fixing tax revenues, closing the budget deficit or fixing services though.

  2. Because they'd never, ever, win government that way. Indeed they'd lose their status as a major party and wouldn't be able to even form opposition. This isn't about labour trying to make the UK more democratic, it's about labour trying to steal some headlines and distract from their lack of any kind of alternative plan in inflation.
