I don't think it's inevitable at all. The problem is, every federal and state sitting member is a housing investor, and the developers are some of the parties biggest donours. The people making housing policy are the very same people benefiting most from said housing policy. It's called corruption. You can't expect the corrupt to end their own corruption. Any change that did come in to the system, you can be sure would benefit them and their mates even more.

Every politician in federal and state politics is a real estate investor. ALL of them. Why would they cut off their gold goose for you? That's the problem. Immigration numbers down to 500K isn't enough. We need to turn off the student visa tap completely. No more. We need to remove international students. We need to cut immigration levels to 1990 levels. Then, and only then, should be look at the supply side issue and look at in terms of flooding the market to make homes cheaper instead of finding ways to saddle people with ever increasing mortgages they cannot afford to service. But reality is none of that will actually happen, because no one works counter to their personal interests and the personal interests of our political class are to continue the real estate rort that keating started in 1994.
