This was the dumbest, laziest lawsuit. The reason these cars are getting stolen isn't because the manufacturer didn't put in enough antitheft measures. They get stolen because prosecutors in the same states complaining have stopped prosecuting "petty" crimes, so car thiefs are left on the streets and gangs/youth have become emboldened.

@antwanthorogood4921 Not for free they can't. It's only the base package model that's effected. If you want additional features, you pay for them like everyone else

@antwanthorogood4921 You don't get back up cameras in base packages either.

@-Ohio actually you don't.

@-Ohio Kia themselves say there isn't in their base model offering. At the end of the day however, no one is being sued over a reversing camera. All features of a vehicle are listed for it's given trim, including the base model. That means the consumer is never going into the purchase blind so far as whether or not a vehicle is fitted with an immobiliser. It is up to the consumer to decide whether they want to spend the extra money on a trim with such a device, have one fitted after market or take their chances. Each consumer should have the right to make such a choice on their own. This lawsuit would not exist, nor would we be having this conversation if the party cities to this lawsuit had adequately staffed and resourced police departments. This lawsuit is the equivalent of suing a builder because police weren't stopping B&Es so criminals started breaking into windows, and then the city claiming the builder should have put bars there to prevent that. Ultimately, a taxpayer should be able to leave their vehicle lawfully parked with the keys in the car, the windows down and both doors unlocked in any neighbourhood and feel safe that no one will steal from it or steal the vehicle itself. Anything less than that and the law enforcement policies have failed. Suing a private, foreign manufacturer won't change that reality.
