  1. Men are not intimidated/insecure. Men are simply playing the odds. Men have a limited amount of time and resources to spend on dates. Therefore it makes more sense for men to spend their time and resources on women who are more likely to choose them for a 2nd date. There is no point wasting time and money with an independent boss babe with delusional standards. A man is likely to be more successful with a woman with lower standards.
