In order to avoid the trap of boredom and complacency, it makes a lot of sense to avoid marriage and co-habitation. Marriage and co-habitation is just asking for trouble because this creates stability and security which then in turn creates boredom, complacency and resentment.

facts. why should married people act like they are unmarried in order to create drama and instability? just don't get married and create stability in the first place. i feel sorry for the kids who have to deal with all this.

💯% nailed it. A lot of this stuff just seems to be genetically wired in humans, in the same way different breeds of dog are wired to behave in a particular way. I think humans massively over estimate how special we are. I recently watched a chimpanzee documentary and they pretty much had the same emotions and behaviours as humans.

@eladbari In the UK around 51% of kids (i.e. most kids) are born outside of marriage. Marriage is going extinct in the UK. It is down from 400k/year in the 1970's, to 200k marriages in 2019, and 85k marriages in 2020. I believe marriage rates are falling in the Western world. So soon most kids will be born outside of marriage.

what is L about telling married people to act like they are unmarried? if marriage creates too much stability and boredom, surely acting unmarried will bring back the drama, chaos and excitement? the advice seems quite logical to be honest if you are married.

100% agreed. If you become boring and complacent the relationship is at risk. Just merely getting married is not enough. You have to behave like you are not married to keep the spark alive.

I think if a woman marries a poor guy, has multiple kids, and has no childcare support from her parents, it is a huge trap (as you correctly say). However, if a woman marries a guy with a good job, has 1 kid, and has parents to help her with childcare, then I don't think divorce and being a single mom is a trap. If anything, it is likely to be a huge win for her, as she will probably get the money, house and kids on divorce. As someone else said, the same women moaning and complaining about kids, would probably be moaning and complaining about loneliness, boredom, emptiness, etc if they did not have a kid.
