@ant318 Japp. That was the reason why such a huge state, as soviet union, which had fertile lands in different climate zones, producing everything from potatoes to peaches, has collapsed anyway. Organization is the key; logistics is the key; finally, brains, responsibility & competition is the key. In soviet union millions of tonns of fruits, veggies & crops have been getting rotten on the fields, because kolhoz workers - practically, poor agrarian half-slaves, - could not care less, and the wealthy irresponsible party leaders could not care less either. At the same time, in the soviet towns & cities peopel were standing in lines to the grocery stores for hours, hoping to buy simple butter, or little piece of meat, or oranges.

The answer is simple, - in the nearest future most of russians will not need malls, because already now usual people in Russia struggle to put food on their tables, especially if they live not in one of two rich capitals (Moscow & Sankt-Petersburg) or near them. I have been watching several Russian Youtubers, visiting shopping malls of different sizes in Siberian towns, or Rostov-on-Don, or Saratov, - and many others. Those malls are already empty, - just few people with one-two parcels here & there. Which means: fewer clients per mall, fewer purchases for client, less income for the mall. Many Russian people already now simply don't have money for anything but the cheapest food.

@markz3708 I guess, you are right. But that is one of the reasons, why so many intelligent, well-educated, honest & active Russians are emigrating from Russia now. They don't want to live soviet lifestyle again: without good food, comfortable clothes, safe cars, cozy houses with nice furniture, - but most of all, they don't want to live in a country without choice & freedom. Because freedom is dissapearing now from Russia quicker, than even imported groceries&meds.

@IrkinsEselsior I guess, the main reason the russian officials preferd to order from abroad instead of supporting business & production in own country, is that it is much easier, - to use the system, which is already functioning, instead of creating ones own. And they wanted to build palaces for themselves for money, stolen from state budget, instead of building factories. They neglected Russian manufacturers, for sure. But russian officials were not "lobbying for the interests of foreing companies", - they tried to "milk" foreigners for bribes and strungle them with incredible bureaucracy. You would have known that, if you would be a foreigner, trying to make business in Russia for last 20 years.

Just two examples, - to prove, that I am not insinuating: the same IKEA and Renault. Even Russian newspapers wrote 10 years ago about a scandal, when russian officials tried to force IKEA to pay bribes. "Ikea’s Samara store, its 12th in Russia, has stood empty for more than a year, with local officials saying it violates numerous safety regulations. Ikea has vowed not to pay bribes – a common means for businessmen to get around regulations – meaning it could stay empty." The truth is, that "violation of safety regulations" was non-existent, - IKEA never allows their buildings to be unsafe.
As for the Renault, - it has been practically forced to enter Russian market, as a part of the deal between russian and French government regarding Mistral-class aircraft carriers, - the deal, that later failed. But Renault was already in Russia, - and it was not treated nicely, - some of the demands of Russian officials in charge of the auto industry were so ridiculous that the owner of Renault was forced to negotiate at the highest level (if you know whom I mean) to stop these bullying. So, - no, Mam, no lobbying of foreigners here, - just the opposite! And that was actually one of the reasons, why now international companies leaving russian market so easily, - they have been fed up with russian corruption long time ago.

@peterashby-saracen3681 You are so right. And the truth is, that there were many intelligent, honest, well-educated Russians, who saw all this horror coming and tried to prevent it, - but they were either killed, like journalist Anna Politkovskaja & politician Boris Nemcov, or jailed, like Aleksej Navalnyj, or had to emigrate in order not to be killed or jailed, - like World Chess Champion Harry Kasparov. All of them are the best Russians, but they are in minority among passive, coward, ignorant crowds of their uneducated compatriots.
