IMO, Gavin Newsom's pandering to China removes him as a qualified candidate.

Each day of losses, weakens Russia's negotiating position. IF Putin holds out until Russia is defeated in the field, then he will lose both Donbas and Crimea.

It is going to get a lot hotter. CO2 is at 420ppm now. CO2 was at 390ppm during the Pliocene, 3.5mya. when oceans were 70 ft deeper, and much less ice at the poles. Now, CO2 is rising at about 2ppm/year. We can expect to see 500ppm CO2 by 2060. That level has not been seen since the Cretaceous, about 60mya, when Dinosaurs walked the Earth. How warm do you think it will get???
1
@ricardosmythe2548 Nope. You don't understand. Distance from Sun is not a significant factor. The CO2 level takes a long time for its effect to be felt fully. We have hardly begun to warm up. Our CO2 levels are HIGHER now than in the Pliocene -- 2.5mya. Oceans were 70 feet deeper then. CO2 levels will be HIGHER by 2100 than they were in the Cretaceous. Oceans were 200+ft deeper than. No ice at the poles. We are NOT going to cycle out of this.
1
@ricardosmythe2548 Sea level did rise about that amount at the end of the last ice age. Sea level has been remarkably stable for last 4000 years. Cities that were ports 2000 years ago, are still ports today - Tyre, Alexandria, Athens. London. The coming sea level rise will come from the melting of Antarctica and Greenland, just as the last one was from the melting of the Laurentide Ice Sheet.
1
@LSD-420 Yes, when the Laurentide Ice Sheet melted. When Greenland and Antarctica melt, the oceans will rise more.
1
@olliea6052 The Pliocene. 3.5 mya, had sea levels 70 ft deeper, with CO2 at about 315ppm. The amount of polar ice and sea levels are correlated to CO2 levels.

Stationary targets are easy targets. If Russia thinks that "hunkering down" or being in fortified positions will be better for it, it better think again.

Globalization has had in interesting development. Russia is able to be attacked financially --- -- cutting off banks from world finance. --- stopping international flights --- Freezing assets. These actions, and others, were not available in WW2 to deal with Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo. After this, war might become less likely, since no country will want such sanctions, nor could they afford them. I think the possible invasion of Taiwan by China just became less likely.
1
Disagree. This war won't last much longer. Russia cannot sustain its losses. Static defensive positions make for easy targets. Russian forces are going to lose more faster now. I bet Ukraine wins this war in 30 to 60 days.

@Shieete168 NATO is a defensive alliance to ensure peace in Europe. It has worked since it was created. Putin has started war. NATO is keeping it confined to Ukraine. IF Ukraine had joined NATO, Putin would never had dared to start a war in Europe

@nikiindzhiev5369 I know Putin and his generals don't give a damn about the lives of Russian soldiers. BUT, they still need to be trained and commanded. Russia has lost so many soldiers and commanders, they won't be able to field a large enough army. Sure they can draft more conscripts They need to be trained and supplied. That takes time. Meanwhile, Ukraine is getting veteran volunteers from around the world. Putin is toast.

@Shieete168 I have no idea what you are saying with that post. What deal? Whose deal?
