  1. Your timeline about the growth of United States opposition to China. It really started under Obama's pivot towards the Indo-Pacific. The TTP was to be the economic cornerstone of that effort. The TTP failed, but the pivot continued. When Trump started his economic challenge to China --- if you remember --- the Democrats did not object or challenge that at all. When Mike Pompeo articulated an anti-China strategy -- again Democrats did not object. Now Trump did not do much substantively. Biden has done MUCH much more. Putting a Taiwanese woman as our trade representative was really nice, IMO. HUGE number of weapons sales to Taiwan. Allowing Pelosi and other legislators to go to Taiwan. Letting it be known that we have advisors and trainers in Taiwan was a nice irritant to China. Declaring openly that US will support Taiwan militarily if China attacks Taiwan was a profound move by Biden. AUKUS was created to oppose China. The Quad was re-invigorated. A new naval base in Palau is being built. The brief two years of Biden's presidency has clarified our policy and opposition to China.

  2. A generation of irrelevance? Where have you been? Not in the US, that is obvious. The nuclear sub fleet of the US is the most important part of our Triad, our strategic nuclear deterrent. Subs have NOT been irrelevant since the 1960's when the SSBN was first created. Attack subs, which are what Australia will get, have also been relevant. That is why the US has them, and why Australia getting them is a big deal. Saying that subs have been irrelevant is just asinine.
