Early in the 20th century It was common for Americans to work 10 hours a day during the week, and half a day on Saturday. This 55 hour schedule was considered too much by organized labor, who pushed manufacturing companies for the 40 hour work week -- which became standard. Chine goes way beyond this - 72 hours/week is cruel. I am sure it is a factor in the low birth rate in China. How can people have kids, when they don't get evenings and weekends to raise their children?? This work schedule benefits no one really. Studies have shown that people work overtime in US are no more productive than those who work 8 hours. The added hours burn them out, and they produce less.
