  2. Nobel, who invented TNT, believed it would make wars shorter and more humane. Same with machine guns. And Haber convinced himself that poison gas would shorten wars, and be more humane. How wrong. How deluded.

  3. To me, the answer was obviously 4, not 3. The reason is -- 3 times for the ratio given, PLUS one for going around the circle. So, if the ratio was 7 to 1, then the answer would be 8. For 1 to 1, the answer is 1+1, or 2.

  4. Sorry, but i think the military's worst idea, by far, was the attempt to use pigeon brains to guide missiles. I forget whether they were going to use the whole pigeon, or just its brain. The idea was like the idea of a mad scientist in one of those b&w horror films of the the 30's. Except it was real. To me, dropping tungsten poles on cities seems like a great idea in comparison.

  5. Parallel universes don't exist -- here is why. The idea of a multi-verse relies on the concept of infinity. Infinity is a mathematical construct. 1/0 = infinity. However, according Quantum Theory -- 1/infinity does not exist. You cannot go infinitely small. As you go smaller and smaller -- you reach a limit -- the Quanta --- a particle or structure so small it cannot be divided. SO, if 1/infinity does not exist --- I posit that infinity also does not exist. Which means the universe is finite, whether bounded or unbounded. No infinity -- no multi-verses.
