  2. IMO, EV technology has not yet matured. Several things NEED to happen to make the EV the obvious choice over the piston engine. 1. Charging times must get lower than 15 minutes, preferably 10 minutes. 2. Replacing the battery pack must NOT be ridiculous. Now, when an EV is 10 years old it might as well be junked. A gasoline car will have 100,000 miles and can easily go for another 100K or even 200K miles. 3. There must be ZERO chance of battery fire or explosion. This is REQUIRED. We are not there yet. I feel that EV's cannot become truly popular until these issues are solved. On the positive note, I think they will get solved. Just don't know when.

  4. I design and install residential solar PV systems. I love solar. I would NOT buy an EV at the moment. I love the idea of EVs, but they are not ready for prime time, yet. 1. The fire and explosion potential is too real, and not yet solved. 2. Filling up takes too much time, and too much planning. A gas car you can fill up anytime anywhere. They are easy. EV are not near to being that easy. 3. A gas car lasts forever with normal maintenance and repair. The cost of replacing the battery pack is so high, that EV's need to be junked after 10 years or whenever the battery pack dies. 4. There won't be a market for used EV's since cost of battery replacement is too high. Normal people who rely on used cars to have a car will be shut out. In time, EV's will take over the world. But, not now.
