By 2100, US population is projected to be 450 million. China's population is projected now to be about 700 million. China will be less than 2 times the size of US. Quite a drop from the 5 times the US that it was.

As a child, I thought it odd that windows were always covered with curtains or drapes. Why have a window, if it is kept covered??? It made no sense to me. And still doesn't.

You, sir, are not a true nerd. We nerds rejoice in pointless useless information. If information has a point or use, then it is not worthy of remembering. We nerds don't remember the birthdays of our mothers, wives, or girlfriends (while we have them), for instance. We don't remember what our boss just told us we had to do, and that it is critical. We bask in the glow of the quizzical looks we get when we mention some factoid that has nothing to do with whatever everyone else is talking about.

IMO, China's purpose in the South China Sea have little to do with resources. Controlling maritime trade through the SCS is the goal. If China can control the trade through the SCS, which Japan, Taiwan, and SK rely on, then those states could be reduced to client states of China. If China controls that trade, then China controls the economic lifeblood of those countries. They all will have to submit to China's hegemony. This is not a small issue. And, it won't go away until China changes its fundamental goal of becoming a local hegemon.

To counter China, all the regional countries, US, UK, and EU should create a defensive alliance committed to freedom in the SCS. ANY stoppage or interference with free trade in the SCS by China should be considered and ACT OF WAR!!!! That is the only way to make China listen. Taking them to the World Court is pointless. Protests and lectures are useless. China, like Putin, only respects naked power. Don't forget - India, Japan, Vietnam, and the US already stage annual joint naval exercises. That is very close to a formal alliance. BTW...the regional countries that should be in this defensive alliance are India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, and South Korea. Taiwan would be a coordinating or cooperating state - not officially in the alliance.

Having a small space lead to a big space was done by Frank Lloyd Wright's teacher and master - Louis Sullivan, founder of the Chicago School. If you go into the Auditorium building in Chicago, designed by Adler & Sullivan, you enter the theater lobby, which has a low ceiling, and feels a bit confined. Then, when you go to your seat and enter the theater, you get this huge expansion into the large theater. The transition is startling. Wright learned a lot from Louis Sullivan. If you look at some of Sullivan's later work, like the Carson Pirie Scott building (now a Target), you can see some hints of what Wright might do.

For the GOP, there are consequences.... 1. By packing the Supreme Court with right wing ideologues that trample on our rights....means that the fight for our rights is transferred to the legislative bodies. Women, who had felt protected by the Supreme Court's rulings, have now become energized to elect legislators that will protect their rights to their bodies. The Republican's putting two rapists on the court does not help. 2. The Supreme Court is now seen as a political body, with Republican and Democratic members, not legal experts. They are now seen to be tools of parties, not objective interpreters of the law and Constitution. It is no longer an august body, but an extension of political sleaze. Since it is the Republican judges who attack and diminish our rights, people will vote for Democrats to save them. The GOP will suffer by losing many more elections, IMO.

1. Containment referred to Red China, as well as the Soviet Union. 2. You forgot about the CENTO and SEATO alliances. CENTO did not work out, but SEATO was important for awhile. 3. The involvement in Saudi Arabia had NOTHING to do with geopolitics and the Soviet Union. Saudi Arabia was ALL about OIL & MONEY. 4. Your map implied China was an ally??? Nope. Red China was seen as an enemy, until Ping came along.

Why does United States need Saudi Arabia? We are self sufficient in oil due to fracking. Moreover, oil is declining as a strategic resource. We are moving fairly rapidly towards a renewable energy global infrastructure. Electric cars are projected to outsell gasoline cars by 2025 to 2030. The importance of Saudi Arabia is less than it was. Soon, it won't be important at all. Let the Russians get blamed for supporting dictators. The US should start supporting democracy and the rule of law, and get out of the "propping up dictators" business.

France & England left the world power stage when they lost their empires. Now the only nations that can compete for world power status have to be big enough to apply. The Soviet Union lost its ability to be a world power when it broke apart. Russia is too small to sustain being a world power. The only nations that have, or can have, the ability to be a world power are ==== United States, China, and India. Conceivably, Brazil may be able to do it, someday. The EU, if it ever unites to become a single nation, would be a superpower -- probably stronger than the United States.

@digitalstories2179 Yes, I get that, But, then why go through the expense of building as many windows into a house as is done?? Why not use more clerestory windows that let in light, without allowing people to see into the house?

@JohnRay1969 Actually, that adds to the argument that many windows are useless. Since they are covered for privacy, why not just have a wall?? Since they offer less insulation, why not have a wall?? Thanks for adding to my argument.
